Where water can show up
Pressure-related seepage is often noticed at the wall-floor joint, through floor cracks, around foundation penetrations, or in other low points. The visible entry spot does not always identify where the water originated outside.
Why drainage can help
Drainage systems give water a controlled path. Interior drain tile can collect water near the footing and move it to a sump. Exterior drainage can reduce water accumulation next to the foundation.
Pressure is not the only cause
Do not assume every wet basement is caused by groundwater pressure. Plumbing, exterior runoff, cracks, window wells and condensation can create different water patterns.
