Gutters and downspouts
Keep gutters clear enough to carry roof water and look for sections that overflow during rain. Downspout discharge should move water away from the foundation rather than concentrating it beside the wall.
Grading
Low spots next to the home can hold rainwater against the foundation. Watch how water moves during a storm and look for soil that slopes toward the house instead of away.
Do the easy checks—but do not ignore persistent seepage
Surface-water improvements can help, but they do not solve every groundwater or foundation problem. If seepage continues after obvious exterior issues are addressed, the drainage and waterproofing systems may need closer evaluation.
