What to document
- Crack direction and approximate width
- Whether the crack is growing or changing
- Whether water enters through it
- Any displacement across the crack
- Bowing or other wall movement nearby
Waterproofing versus structural repair
A leak repair addresses water entry. Structural work addresses movement or load-related concerns. Some projects involve both, but a waterproofing repair should not be presented as a substitute for structural evaluation when movement is evident.
When the crack is the water source
If a stable crack is the clear path for rainwater or seepage, a focused crack-repair approach may be appropriate instead of a full perimeter waterproofing project.
